Eric Sloan releases statement on utility shutoffs and recent consumer deaths
Scottsdale, AZ – 2 more Arizonans are dead because of utility shutoffs. Consider this: If someone abandoned a senior citizen at home or left them in a car during the summer in Arizona without water or air conditioning we would be demanding they be prosecuted for elder abuse. We should hold these companies to that same standard.
These regulated utilities need to be held accountable. Their treatment of Arizonans is legally negligent and morally reprehensible. I’m mad as hell about how they treat senior citizens working families who are on hard times.
These deaths are 100% preventable. It seems now there is a pattern across utility companies serving Arizonans. The facts are clear senior Arizonans, on fixed incomes, are dying because of the policies. Any Utility turning off any Arizonans water or air conditions in summer should be held accountable to the full extent of the law.
These senior citizens have no choices in what utility they use, and when they can’t make ends meet these utilities companies just shutoff the power irregardless of the summer heat in Arizona. That is 100% wrong.
We absolutely have to have shutoff protections for Arizonans. The levels of extreme temperatures reached inArizona makes this a critical life saving priority. I will work with anyone to support and pass protections for Arizona.
